Alex's Tailgate Threads

Dressing for any event is a pain. Dressing for a tailgate is torture. What is the weather going to be like, what shoes will I be able to wear all day, is everyone going casual or dressing up? So many factors to consider, and make one mistake and your whole football Saturday could be ruined. Not to fret, Alex is here to save the day. I'll be going through my past tailgate fails and success so another damsel doesn't have to suffer like I did!

That one time I wore wedges:

It was a game day in Athens and I should have known better. The veterans in this picture made the smart choice and wore flats, but my friends and I weren't so lucky. We did so much walking that day by 4 o'clock we were ready to be barefoot. I don't want to completely rule out the wedge, but you have to consider what kind of tailgate you'll be at. If you're at a school that requires a lot of traveling by foot leave the wedges at home! Your feet will thank you.

Booties are a god sent:

Want to dress it up, but don't want to kill your feet?! Booties are the answer. They are always the answer. I don't know what it is about them, but I can last hours in a comfy pair of booties. They are great for tailgating because you won't feel like your feet are on fire, but you'll still be serving those fire looks! Pair them with a pair of shorts, jeans or a dress and you won't go wrong!

When in doubt, romp it out:

Is it a dress, is it shorts, is it both? No, it's a romper! The greatest piece of clothing to hit our closets since the skort. Rompers look great on just about everyone, and the best part is the lack of effort it takes to put together an outfit with one. This particular tailgate my friend Jane paired her favorite romper with a pair of booties. That's it! If you're someone who struggles with finding something to wear, go with something that takes minimal brain power but still slays.

A good doggo is the best accessory:

The best part about tailgating? The puppies! This is my dog Luke, and he loves going to the best football pregame. He always gets lots of love, and he makes for a really cute picture. People love to stop and pet him, and it's the best way to get free food! Plus, if you have your dog with you it's the perfect excuse not to go into the game (if you're like me and think the tailgate is the best part).

Never underestimate the power of a LBD:

Ever have those days where you can't find anything to wear? Reach for the little black dress! Throw on a accessory that matches your school colors and you're good to go. You definitely won't be the only one, but a simple black dress is the perfect solution when you have a full closet but nothing to wear.

You're hot then you're cold:

Ladies you know what I'm talking about. It's cold outside, so you dress like it. But then you're at the tailgate, the beers start flowing and all of a sudden it feels like it's the middle of summer. Layers are your friend! Throw on a long sleeve t-shirt dress and a cardigan. At this tailgate I was wearing a Pikko dress with my favorite sweater vest/cardigan combo. It was perfect because my legs could breathe and I could take off my cardigan if I got too hot or cold.

Don't be afraid to dress it up:

Just because you're going to a tailgate it doesn't mean you have to dress in a football jersey. This two piece set was one of my favorite homecoming outfits! I paired it with some knee high boots with a thick heel so they were easy to walk in. It was definitely my more dressy choices, but still perfect for a tailgate. HOWEVER if you are going to dress it up, make sure it's an early game. The longer you have to be at a tailgate, the more uncomfortable you can get.

But t-shirt and jeans is always acceptable:

Sure you can dress it up! But you can also dress it way down. Pair your comfiest pair of jeans with a t-shirt that matches your school colors and you're golden. Jerseys are also a great alternative to getting dressed up! Minimal effort, and everyone will appreciate how supportive of the home team you are. This outfit was perfect for this tailgate because the game didn't start until 8 o'clock and it was important that I was comfortable all day!

Have fun with it:

Whatever you decide to wear to your tailgate, have fun with it! Throw on some school colors, grab a beer, and get to tailgating. Saturdays are for the girls!

xoxo Alex
