What to Do with All of That Leftover Halloween Candy

Katelynn here! I hope everyone had an excellent Halloween. If you’re anything like me, you may be wondering about what you can do with all this extra candy you have now acquired. One option is to make candy bark. This is a super easy treat to make, and it’s almost impossible to mess it up. Plus, you can completely make it your own and choose what candy you use! Scroll to the bottom to see the full recipe.
I did make this treat for the purpose of writing this piece, but I actually was doing double-duty. My brother wanted to take a treat to his classes since it was Halloween, so we made this together. You can tell he loved doing something with his big (yet much smaller) sister.

Every single ingredient we used is interchangeable with something else if you so choose, and many of these ingredients can be completely omitted if you want. You just have to have some sort of chocolate base to put your candy and sprinkles on!

Here’s what we used: M&M’s, Twix, Reese’s Cups, Milk Duds, candy corn, pretzel sticks, Halloween sprinkles, candy eyeballs, and white chocolate candy melts.
Our base was made with the white candy melts and pretzels. Everything else was a topping we used. If you want to use milk or even dark chocolate as your base, that totally works. If you don’t want to use pretzels in your base, you don’t have to! You can completely make it your own.
The first thing we did is melt the chocolate. Many recipes tell you to just put it in the microwave, but if you’re melting an entire package of almond bark, a double-boiler is the way to go (and is also just my preferred way to melt chocolate).

While that water was heating up, we went ahead and prepared our pans. A cookie sheet with a piece of wax paper spread out is all you need. The chocolate won’t stick to the wax paper. We also spread out the pretzel sticks.

While we were in the process of melting the chocolate, we chopped up the candy we needed and put it into bowls to easily sprinkle it out over the melted chocolate. If you aren’t great at multitasking while melting chocolate, you might want to do that beforehand!

Once we finished melting the chocolate, I pulled the glass bowl off of the water to cool enough for me to be able to pour the chocolate out, and then poured half over one of our pans and half over the other. When your pour chocolate out over the pretzels and start spreading it, they do have a tendency to roll towards the edges. I ended up taking more pretzels and pushing them down into bare areas to fill it in.

Once that looks good, it’s time to decorate! We sprinkled our candies as evenly as we could and threw some sprinkles on at the end for good measure! The only candy we had to place carefully were the candy eyeballs, but that’s just because I wanted the eyeballs to be visible.

You can use any sprinkles you want – or none at all! I had some black pearl sprinkles left over from a previous recipe, so I used some of those along with the Halloween sprinkles my brother picked out.

Once we were done decorating, into the fridge they go! We let them cool for about an hour and a half before pulling them out for the final step….

Breaking it up into bark! Since this was being given out to high schoolers, we broke it up into kind of large pieces. It’s a really rich treat, so these were big enough so one piece was probably all one person could eat.

And that is that! It really is as easy as it sounds. And the high schoolers LOVED it. I hope yours turns out as good as ours did, and make sure to have fun with it!
